The Unity Project

The Unity Project (featured in SanFranciscoChronicle.com) is a large scale community art installation led by Spark ceramics in collaboration with Buena Vista Horace Mann public community school and Philanthropic Ventures Foundation.  This project was conceived in November 2016 in response to the negative political climate of the presidential campaign and the visceral impact it had on the children and families in this community.  Each student at the school along with family members and staff created over 600 ceramic flowers.  The 6 1/2 foot circular arrangement is a bouquet that symbolizes strength in diversity and the power of unity.  It will be a permanent example of BVHM’s vision: “together we are stronger”.

A dedication ceremony will be held for the school community on May 23rd at the school at 11:45am

Spark ceramics instructors led each grade level in workshop style lessons constructing flowers in clay while discussing what unity means and how it impacts us today.  Many parents and family members participated and enjoyed the creative process of art making in the classrooms, glazing flowers and building community.
